What are we using, thermal clip or cooldown?
Everyone will use thermal clips.
Why are we using clips? The other way we had it in ME was better!
For storytelling reasons; Alliance militaries observed Geth after the Eden Prime fiasco and saw that the Geth got more slugs downrange the fastest, thus whittling down the enemy's shields and winning the fight. How they did this? Thermal clips. Instead of waiting for the gun to cool, heat was stored in clips so that it could be instantly ejected and replaced to allow a continuous rate of fire. Ideally, clips could be recovered after a fight by the winning army and "recycled" by manually cooling them and putting them back into circulation. As a result, the tech for self-cooling guns was sacrificed to make room for the thermal clips. Otherwise, the weapon would be too unwieldy.
How do other aliens understand each other?
Translators. For most civilians, translators are small, handheld PDAs that wire to an earpiece that instantly translates any known language. For those who are more dedicated, there are subdermal implants as well as more hidden ones such as in clothing or jewelery. For military, they either have them loaded on an omnitool, or again as subdermal implants.
Does a ship/object etc have special rules to whether it can go through a mass relay or not? Could they theoretically move a large asteroid? A planet? A star?
Large objects can be transported, but there has to be something that tells the relay the amount of mass to transit. Escape pods have a VI installed that handles the amount of mass to a mass relay, atmospheric reentry and landing.
If you were a Human travelling into Asari space, would you need prof of ID, such as a passport, and a travel document, such as a VISA?
Yes. On the Citadel and likely other places exist scanners to ID you, you have to carry some sort of visa to travel through another species' space. Of course, it would depend on relations between the two species (ain't no human gonna travel through Batarian space). Colonies might not care as much, but I'm sure major planets would want reasons for your visit. Even if just for pleasure, you would probably need some visa/proof you went through customs and are supposed to be there.
Is armor powered?
The armor is essentially powered exosuit with the ability to become a space suit in a pinch. This of course can be upgraded but has more drain. So it is possible to temporary increase the power to break bones. Also the suit has a shield which uses power, and every so often you'd need to replace a rechargable kinetic barrier pack. Of course, a good tech can deal with all of that.
Do we use Omni-gel?
Yes, but it cannot be used to hack open doors or hardware.
